I am… a son, husband, father, magistrate judge, CrossFitter and Christian.

I like… to dance and make people smile.

I dislike… frogs. C’mon people let’s be real, they’re disgusting… and that bulging neck thing they do is gross.

I eat… clean. Meaning I clean any and everything off of my plate.

I will… be better today, than I was yesterday.

 

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I grew up in Cincinnati. After graduating from Lakota West High School, I received a football scholarship to Georgetown College and was captain of a two-time national championship team. I went to law school and began my career as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Montgomery County where I would meet my beautiful wife, Janna Parker. Upon leaving, and spending some time in private practice, I was recently appointed as a Magistrate Judge in Montgomery County Juvenile Court. Janna and I have two amazing daughters (Zoe, 2 – going on 13) and (Maya, 1). We attend Southbrook Christian Church but Sundays are a struggle since Janna was born and raised in Pittsburgh and I’m from Cincinnati. WHO-DEY!!!

 

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

My wife back in 2011 wanted to check it out. We had already been members of another gym and chose to officially join CCF around February 2012. The workouts were/are about as close as the workouts I did in college and it’s safe to say Janna and I are gluttons for punishment.

 

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

There have been so many over the years which come with being a part of this gym. I would like to eventually snatch 225 (I have gotten so close).

 

What is your favorite movement?

Snatch. When you come out of that “hole” with the bar above your head you look and feel like a BOSS!

 

What is your least favorite movement?

Snatch. When you fail to come out of that “hole” without the bar above your head you look and feel like…NOT A BOSS!

 

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

My defensive coordinator in college once said: “One of the hardest things to do in life is your best, when average will get the job done.”

 

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

For new members, you’ll never workout the same way and get the same results, nor should you in my humble opinion.

For someone thinking about joining CrossFit, I routinely hear the same three things, such as:

  1. “I need to get in shape first” –  Frankly, you won’t.
  2. “I can’t do those movements”  – I know, our amazing coaches will personally teach you how to do them or modify it.
  3. “I don’t want people looking at me” – Ain’t nobody got time for that, because they’re too busy pushing themselves as far and as hard as they can go.

Just show up before you come up with a fourth reason.

 

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

Centerville CrossFit is one of the best gyms and Mitch Lyons is one of the best coaches in the Miami Valley area (and beyond). His assistant coaches fall under his amazing leadership. We (emphasis on “We”) are a very supportive group, where everyone is pushing everyone to be the best that they can be at that particular moment of a WOD. But the best part is, once you leave CCF, you basically have no choice but to be the best that you can be in other areas of your life.
