I am… so glad I started doing CrossFit!

I like… wine and chocolate and traveling to places that have wine & chocolate (I see Italian wine and chocolate gelato in the near future). I like it when the coaches play music I’ve heard of.

I dislike… shopping. Losing weight this year has forced me to go shopping a lot and that’s not fun at all, but it’s fun wearing smaller sizes. I also dislike it when my kids don’t want to hear about what I did at my workout…but I tell them anyway.

I eat… anything I want on Friday and Saturday nights; having that to look forward to keeps me on track the rest of the week.


Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

My husband, Dave (just joined CCF), and I have 3 kids in their 20’s who all live in Columbus; the youngest attends OSU. I work at WPAFB.


What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

I was looking for something to do during the week that would also improve my health. Then last September a friend asked me to do the “New You Challenge”. I was very skeptical after I saw online what people do at CrossFit. I thought you had to be in good shape before starting CrossFit and I was too old, too out of shape, too overweight and thought I may get injured trying to do those things. I had an LA Fitness membership but I just couldn’t ever get motivated to go so I decided to try CrossFit.


What goals have you achieved?

I wanted to be able to do a sit-up, get up off the floor easier, and go up and down stairs easier…very basic things. I can easily do all those now. I got a lot stronger, lost 5.5% body fat and 24 pounds in the past 5 months (after “doing the food” part). My blood work #’s also improved a lot due to a good diet and exercise…without any medication.


What are your new ones?

I want to lose more body fat, deadlift my body weight and do a Double Under…just one…no need to overdo it!


What is your favorite movement?

Anything I’m doing now that I couldn’t do a year ago. I couldn’t jump rope, do a sit-up, box jump or a burpee. In recent workouts I did 120 sit-ups, jump roped 450 times, did lots of burpees and did my 1st box jump. So those are my favorite movements (except for the box jump).


What is your least favorite movement?

The bike & anything with the bar that you have to get your elbows up (mine won’t go up).


What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

I don’t really have a favorite quote but here’s one I hear a lot: “Go home, eat a meal (not just a protein shake), drink plenty of water (not bourbon), and get plenty of sleep”.


Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

It doesn’t matter what your starting condition is or how old you are, you just start from wherever you are and get better. Yes, it’s hard. But if working hard just 3 hours a week makes every other hour in the week easier, then it’s definitely worth it. If you keep at it, you’ll see positive changes in all aspects of your life.


What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

I love the people, the coaches and learning new skills. I like how my coach encourages me to try new skills but also makes sure I’m not going to do anything to hurt myself. I like being around the positive, energetic people here and love how everyone is so supportive of each other no matter what your level is.
