I am… one of the biggest Red’s fans, a person who could sleep all day, a meme creator, someone who brings a hot pocket to a picnic, dances their face off at the bar, worries about the Ohio rabbit population, uses yahoo answers as their source of truth, and a founding father of #AARONS.

I like… to not take life so seriously and have a good time with friends and family.

I dislike… sock puppets, waking up early, losing, the WNBA, the St. Louis Cardinals, writing papers, and missing workouts.

I eat… fairly clean during the week, but then eat whatever my soul desires on the weekend.

I will… do my best to be the best that I can be with everything that I have been given.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I work out with the 6:15 advanced class. I enjoy video games, having fun, and sports. I hope to start doing more CrossFit competitions. I currently am a business process analyst at a managed healthcare company.

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

My brother had started working out at CCF and I was getting out of shape. Once I saw some pictures from a vacation I knew things had to change. I was tired of the old gym routine and needed something different. I gave it a try and it was the best decision I have made since grabbing a bag of Cheetos to type this.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

Some goals that I have achieved this year are becoming more efficient at my double-unders and PR’ing my front squat at 295 lbs. My newest goals are to clean 250 lbs and snatch 200 lbs.

What is your favorite movement?

My two favorite movements are handstand pushups and bar muscle-ups.

What is your least favorite movement?

My two least favorite movements are close grip upright rows and rear elevated split squats.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“It’s like bringing a ham sandwich to a banquet” or “Do you love to win or hate to lose?”

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Just do it. You will not regret at least giving it a try. The people here are the best and like to have a good time while putting in the effort to be healthy. You will make friendships that you wouldn’t be able to at regular gym. Plus nothing is better than beating your friends in a workout.

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

The community is what makes CCF so special. Everyone at the gym is so friendly and supportive. We all like to work hard and get better every day. The coaches are spectacular and push you to be the best you can be while making sure you are doing all the lifts correctly.

I am… a random, silly, adventurous little squirrel – in a nut shell hahah!

I like… to make people laugh even if it involves me bustin’ a move or speaking in a different accent.

I dislike… negative people

I eat… pretty similar to Paleo but every once and awhile I have to treat myself to some pizza and some bomb dot com tacos… #church

I will… never give up and always strive to better myself

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I sell women’s shoes at Von Maur. This fall I will be going back to school at WSU to study dietetics to be a Dietitian. I love doing activities outside such as hiking, yoga, kayaking, exploring and just relaxing in the sun. I love learning ways to better my health, like eating habits and finding new skin care lines that are safe and healthy. I also enjoy painting and all sorts of crafts!

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

I have always been active in my life but going to the gym wasn’t enough anymore. I got bored and needed something else that would push me to work harder and get me to my goals faster. I didn’t really know what CrossFit was, all I ever heard was that it was tough so of course I had to try it.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

Other than setting new PR’s, I would have to say DU’s (double-unders) was one of the top achievements. It took me at least a month to just finally be able to do one, now it’s a piece of cake. The next goal that I am working on is a Muscle Up, I will be able to do one by this year!

What is your favorite movement?

My favorite movement is going to have to be the Clean & Jerk, it challenges me and I always get super excited when I hit a PR!

What is your least favorite movement?

I was going to say Burpess but when I thought they couldn’t get any worse, James Recob introduced me to the Blurpee the other day, OOO MY STARS! So Blurpees it is!

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“A moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory”    – Laura Hillenbrand from the book/movie Unbroken

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

I personally think anyone who loves playing sports, working with others, and having a coach to help them along the way that pushes you to become better will love CrossFit! Be ready to feel like a bad ass after every class because you’re not going to believe you just completed the WOD that you thought wasn’t possible!

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

I love how Centerville CrossFit is not just a gym but it is also a family. I have met so many awesome people and made a lot of great friends that have the same interest, help encourage me to keep going and never give up! I love you guys!

CCF_baburnside_2I ama daughter, a sister, an auntie, a friend, a daydreamer, a deep thinker, a goal seeker, and a chef. I am an extroverted introvert.

I likecoffee, sunshine and pickled beets.

I dislikeRod Stewart and the rodeo.

I eatmostly natural, fresh whole foods. However, I don’t deny myself anything. If I really want some mac n’ cheese with a side of cupcakes – I’m eating it.

I willlive my life in gratitude.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am a native of Dayton and recently moved back into the area after 20 years away. I am thrilled to be home! Professionally, I am a clinical research manager. I both supervise and collaborate with a talented group of professionals dedicated to bringing cutting-edge investigational treatments to our local communities and making them available to our patients, especially for patient populations with little or no current treatment options. I am close with my family and very selective in my friendships. I have a sweet little cat named Nikki who I love dearly. As far as hobbies…CrossFit (duh!), catching live concerts, yoga, running, biking, reading, cooking, trying new restaurants, and attempting to keep plants and flowers alive in my yard.

What brought you to Centerville Crossfit and CrossFit in general?

One of my sisters has been a CrossFit athlete for a few years and I have witnessed her positive mental and physical transformation into a happier, healthier version of herself. This sparked my curiosity for CrossFit in general.

I left a great bootcamp back in St. Louis and after relocating I was in need of finding a new program to call home. I have a competitive nature and thrive on the energy generated from group workouts and was ready to try the intensity of CrossFit. I started asking around and researching local programs for the right fit and found CCF. Centerville Crossfit has very quickly become my sanctuary for stress release, my safe place to go when I am looking my worst while fighting to do my best.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

I am an active person and exercise has always been a part of my life. I came to CCF because I was sure I would get a good workout. After regularly attending classes for about six months, I found myself in the best shape I’ve been in for several years. I was not expecting that! The CrossFit program is a completely new fitness realm for me, so my current goal is to work to master the technical elements of the various movements, especially lifting weights and the gymnastics components.

What is your favorite movement?

I really like Toes to Bar and fully intend to master this movement.

What is your least favorite movement?

Box Jumps are terrifying, but I still do them.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Trust the process. Trust the coaching team. The transformation is just as much mental as it is physical. I cannot express how deeply gratifying it feels to pick a barbell up off the ground, lift it over your head and then throw it down. Throw it down! Seriously. No seriously, just try it. I dare you not to love it!

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

It’s not about where you are, it’s about who you are with and this is such a special group of people. I have high expectations, not only of myself, but of anyone training or teaching me, coaches and fellow athletes alike. I came to CCF to work hard and to learn and this community always rises to the occasion.

April 2015: Mike Conner

By: Stewie Leave a Comment

I am… many things but I am nothing without my beautiful wife.

I like… cats, Monster Ballads and Sudoku.

I dislike… knickknacks, dry skin and doing dishes.

I eat… based on my mood. Sometimes it’s healthy, sometimes it’s not, usually its meatloaf.

I will… be the best person I can be and let karma decide the rest.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am the father of two awesome children and a husband to an incredible woman. When I have to play grown-up, I design and sell remote controls for industrial and automation applications. I really don’t have many hobbies other than CrossFit but I am, however, kind of a big deal when it comes to Mario Kart.

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

I got pretty fluffy while focusing on my career in my mid 20’s and needed a change. I started running and set what felt like an unrealistic goal of completing a 1/2 marathon. After completing that, my goal became doing a full and then eventually a 1/2 Ironman triathlon. After the 1/2 Ironman, I realized I had made a mistake and that I never wanted to do anything that involves swimming ever again. Seriously… never again! Looking for a new challenge, I stumbled across CrossFit on YouTube while looking at different obstacle races like the Spartan Race, Mudathalon, etc. I Googled local CrossFits and found Centerville CrossFit. Unfortunately at the time, I was rehabbing some broken bones I acquired while dominating the soccer field in a local elite adult league (I have since retired my cleats). Once I was able to start, I was hooked and I’ve never looked back.

What goals have you achieved? What are you new ones?

Prior to starting CrossFit, I was a heavy smoker for about 17 years. Most of my adult life, I had a goal of quitting but the attempts were half-hearted and unsuccessful. After joining Centerville CrossFit, I quickly realized that I could not do both. My desire to get better in the gym gave me enough motivation to finally quit. Regardless of any other accomplishments I may make, this will most likely be the most important and beneficial in the long run.

A big goal of mine right now is to improve my snatch. I would like a 1.25 x BW snatch but that is a long (really long) term goal.

What is your favorite movement?

My favorite movement is probably the thruster because it can be a strength movement or a conditioning movement depending how you use it.

What is your least favorite movement?

Running…

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“But I keep cruising, can’t stop, won’t stop grooving
It’s like I got this music in my body and it’s gonna be alright” – Taylor Swift

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Trust the process and set small realistic goals. They add up to big ones before you know it.

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

The members. I have met a lot of great people since I’ve started. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals is the best way to achieve your goals. Plus, it makes the journey so much more enjoyable!

March 2015: Jon Bryant

By: Stewie 1 Comment

I am… Jon Bryant, a father, son, brother, husband, engineer and Buckeye (no particular order)

I like… vacationing and spending time with my family

I dislike… hypocrisy and double standards

I eat… 90% Paleo, 75% of the time

I will… continue to get better

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I’m an Aquarius and I like long walks on the beach…oh wait, this isn’t that type of questionnaire. Let’s see…I received undergrad and graduate degrees in engineering as well as a minor in exercise science from THE Ohio State University. I work for the Air Force/DoD at Wright-Patterson AFB. Hobbies? I think I need some. CrossFit is probably the closest thing to a hobby that I have.

What brought you to Centerville Crossfit and CrossFit in general?

I started CrossFit in 2010 at Wright Patt after about 20 years of following “conventional” weight training programs concentrated around specific muscle groups (the old chest/back/arms/shoulders/legs rotation). As I broke into my 40s I realized I wasn’t going to be entering any bodybuilding shows anytime soon and needed real fitness. I had heard about a crazy workout program offered on the base that was super intense, so I decided to give it a try. My first WOD of thrusters and running showed me just how out-of-shape I was. After reading more of the principals behind it and going to few more classes, I was hooked.

I built a home gym and used it for about a year and a half after the base gym closed. However, I missed working out with a group of people and I didn’t feel I was getting any better. I had heard good things about Centerville CrossFit and knew some people from Wright Patt who went there, so I decided to check it out. Right away I was impressed with the coaching which is top-notch.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

I had pretty much given up on ever doing a pull-up before I started CrossFit, so that was one of my first achievements. Also, I can now string together 20-30 double-unders (at least once per WOD). I hope to get better at those as well as handstand pushups.

What is your favorite movement?

I like simple heavy movements like deadlifts. Any type of deadlift will do.

What is your least favorite movement

Ah so many to choose from…probably dumbbell thrusters. Nothing can make me feel like a clumsy newb as quickly as dumbbell thrusters. Or anything with dumbbells, really.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next week.” I think it’s a quote from George S. Patton and sounds pretty intense but it can be applied to a lot of situations. Sometimes you have to stop planning and/or over-thinking and just do something.

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

If you are thinking about trying it, go for it. Apply the quote above and do it quickly. I wish I would have started CrossFit much earlier. Also don’t be afraid and don’t listen to the nay-sayers and critics who claim it is dangerous. I have seen many more injuries from people following the ‘conventional’ type of strength training than I have seen in CrossFit. If you are new, don’t be discouraged with not being able to do some of the movements. Everyone has trouble with something. Keep at it, listen to the coaches, and you will improve.

What do you love about Centerville Crossfit?

As mentioned above, the coaching is awesome. Also the programming is very well put together with a great mix of strength and conditioning.

February 2015: Darlene Reid

By: Stewie Leave a Comment

crossfit pic DARI am…. Darlene Reid (DAR)

I like… A LOT of things but mostly I like having PURPOSE with anything I do.

I dislike… A LOT of things but mostly DRAMA, complainers, folks who say they can handle the truth but really can’t and         folks who can’t get straight to the point!

I eat… to live. All food groups are here for a reason. Its up to us to learn how to eat them wisely.

I will… keep my word, be honest even if it means it will hurt feelings, always be transparent in all that I do, AND I will kick anyone’s a** if they F with my family or anyone I care about.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am a wife. I have been married almost 20yrs and I actually really like my husband. I am mom. I have two fabulous girls Hunter (12) and Kennedy (9) who I love more than life itself. I also have a dog. His name is Dink and he is the son I have always wanted.

I work for the YMCA of Greater Dayton at the Coffman Y. For the past 19 years I have been the Senior Health and Wellness Director. I hold several certifications that allow me to train and teach others in the fitness field. I teach 7 classes per week from cardio kick, HIIT, TRX, spin and Zumba. I am trainer for the YMCA of USA for group exercise and strength and conditioning instructors. I also am a Personal Trainer and do a lot of that too.  This is only ¼ of what my job entails. To me this is the fun stuff.

The last 8 years I have had the pleasure having a fitness website. I provide choreography to other zumba/fitness instructors every month. I travel throughout the year and do Zumba Master Classes where I teach to other Zumba instructors.

I love anything that challenges me. I am that person who enjoys being in that “uncomfortable zone”. I embrace it. I welcome it! I know that as long as I am uncomfortable I am still living, growing and striving to be better. I don’t have time for complacency. Life is meant to be lived and to be lived HARD! In my 20’s I was a runner. I traveled the country doing marathons, half marathons and 5ks. In my 30’s I engaged in bodybuilding and loved it. Now in my 40’s TRX and recently Crossfit has been my drug of choice.

I love Mexico. I am an island girl at heart. I love salsa music and salsa dancing! I love my family, friends, my dog Dink and a big glass of the driest red cabernet sauvignon I can find. My goal in this life is to do things that Motivate, Inspire and Teach others to be better.

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

Do you remember me mentioning complacency above? I had reached it around November 2013. Even though I was doing TRX, teaching all my classes and doing Zumba, I was BORED. I do not like doing things without purpose and as far as my personal exercise/fitness regimen I was bored. So I had to find my purpose again. I knew of CrossFit so I did a bit more in-depth research of CrossFit facilities in my area. CCF was the farthest from where I work and live so I didn’t have to worry about having to deal with people or staff interrupting me while working out. I am very protective about my workout time and at CCF, I can just be Dar instead of Darlene the Sr. Health and Wellness Director who has to be “on” all the time. YAY me!

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

Honestly I did not have any specific goals going into CCF other than gaining purpose which I did find. I found my zest for working out again, bettering myself, competing and addressing areas of weaknesses instead of ignoring them. I had made it a point to learn as much as I could from anyone who was willing to teach me; especially when it came to olympic lifts.

Doing CrossFit for the last year I use to look over at the advanced side and be in aww. I wanted to workout like that and I wanted to know what I needed to do to make that transition. Thanks to Mitch, who after I inquired about it, gave me that push I needed to go to “the other side.” So now my goal is to earn my place over there. I want to learn from all those who do things better than me. My cleans and snatches SUCK so my goal is to work on my technique so I will be able to increase my weight in these lifts and to do them with POWER!

What is your favorite movement?

Not that I am great at it but I love the power clean and anything with a “kip” in it. I learned how to kip and now I love it.

What is your least favorite movement?

Anything I can’t do…YET… which is a lot! Seriously though the SNATCH. It scares me. It appears the lifts that require my hips I struggle with.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

I came up with this quote years ago that I keep within eye shot to constantly remind me what to do when facing a tough patch: “Don’t allow the challenges you face in life defeat you…instead allow them to be the opportunities that enable you to LEARN, GROW AND BECOME STRONGER!”-DAR

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Just DO IT! It will be one of the most challenging but rewarding things you will ever do in your life.

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

What isn’t there to love about CCF? I have been a part of the fitness industry for over 20 years and have experienced all kinds of trainers and fitness facilities. CCF has not just left an imprint on my mind but also on my heart. In my opinion CCF has some of the best coaching staff. The coaches push, yell, invade personal space, encourage, share crossfit secrets, make you do things you think you can’t do, tell you you can when you really think you can’t and make you glad you came because before you got there you were having a crappy day. Lastly, I have met some pretty cool people who can do some pretty cool things.

I am…. a father, a professional, a competitive individual, a passionate person.

I like… pizza, and the many blessings that I have in my life

I dislike… fake people, be real tell it like it is, and don’t be ashamed

I eat… like crap, “the struggle is real folks”

I will… continue to work hard on achieving my goals

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am a proud father of two wonderful children…Jaxson (9yrs/boy) & Reiss (6yrs/girl). I am a Senior Territory Sales Manager for Merck Animal Health. “I sell drugs…to Vets” and I love THE Ohio State Buckeyes Football, and unfortunately I root for the Browns. So…..O…H….

What brought you to Centerville Crossfit and CrossFit in general?

I had previously been a runner, for about 4-5 years before I started CrossFit. I would log anywhere between 12-30 miles a week routinely. I noticed that I was still gaining weight with that regimen. I needed something more. I had an old coworker that competed in CrossFit and I vaguely remember the term “CrossFit” I googled it and CCF came up.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

There are too many to mention, but the most memorable is when I finally got “double-unders” It was a relief. Although I have strung together almost 70, “67 to be exact, but who’s counting”, they are still hit or miss for me. Some days I can do 50, and some days I’m lucky to do 5.

My new goal for 2015 is to dial my diet in, I have seen many great results but I have never gotten disciplined enough to see it through. I’ve heard a million times that diet is 80 of your physical appearance, I aim to see that through this year.

I would also like to get a muscle-up this calendar year!

What is your favorite movement?

I loathe them all, and find that they are all necessary.

What is your least favorite movement?

I loathe them all, and find that they are all necessary.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“You are either selling, or you are being sold”

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Get involved, shake hands, and make friends. Everyone at CCF is friendly, even the beasts on the “other side”. If you are able to, come at least 4 times a week, you will notice a difference in your physical appearance, and your overall outlook on life.

Don’t give up, work through your soreness. There will be times when you wake up and can barely walk, because you are so sore, a WOD will almost always make you feel better. Listen to your coaches, they know what they are doing and have your best interest in mind.

What do you love about Centerville Crossfit?

The sense of community

I am… happy.
I like… surrounding myself with good people.
I dislike… that I live so far from the gym.
I eat… not nearly as well as I should.
I will… keep trying.

What brought you to Centerville Crossfit and CrossFit in general?
My employer told me I should check it out so we went together. Everyone thinks they are in shape but gets humbled extremely quickly. I don’t have the motivation to push myself so the class atmosphere and camaraderie definitely keep me there.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?
I FINALLY got past my one time 1RM Snatch. It only took me about 2 years but I got it. Now I’m shooting for a 155# Snatch.

What is your favorite movement?
Everyone will hate that I say this but I really like running. Cardio aside, I really enjoy the Power Clean as well.

What is your least favorite movement?
The Thruster. I cannot seem to get the transition right with my wrists and I lose power from my hips. Yes, I like this much less than using the AeroDyne.

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?
“Master others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power.”- Lao Tzu

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?
The absolute hardest part is showing up. We all make excuses but once there we all push each other to do our best. Don’t be intimidating that others may be stronger than you or can perform a move. They were in your shoes at one point.

What do you love about Centerville Crossfit?
The coaches. You can go to any one of them with a question or an issue and they’ll help you out. I’ve never felt intimidated or unsafe about a movement or workout. They always break it down and look out for us to keep us safe and injury free.

I am… forging my way through the daily grind, working towards my goals.

I like… a lightweight, air cooled, belt-fed machine gun; but who doesn’t

I dislike… fake people.

I eat… as close to paleo as I can. Beef, chicken, eggs, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots mostly.

I will… reach, obtain, and maintain my goals. This I swear to the CrossFit gods.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am a Weapons & Tactics Instructor for the military. I have been serving for over 20+ years now. As far as hobbies go, I attend tactical training classes, purchase and collect weapons and gear, go shooting with the guys whenever I can, and am a big movie buff. I have two fur children: a bulldog named Gunny, and a cat named Horus.

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

I became interested in CrossFit because of a fellow coworker who had started doing it about six months prior to me joining. I noticed the physical changes it was doing to him and wanted those same types of results. I did a quick Google search and found that Centerville CrossFit was the closest box to my residence. I came in and registered for the initial testing, which was administered by Adam R. My body quickly informed my mind that I was no longer 27 years old. I came close to passing out and started to see spots. Once I regained the ability to form complete sentences and use a pen, I signed up right then and there. The rest, as they say, is history.

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

Some of the goals that I have achieved since joining back in March ’13 have been the loss of over 30 lbs of unwanted body fat, the regaining of strength and some muscle mass, and I am not nearly as depressed as I was prior to joining. My current goals are to continue on the weight loss, muscle gains, and setting new PRs whenever possible. Now that I am starting to get the hang of the form and technique of several of the lifts, my numbers keep going up. I would like to hit 385 for HBBS, 250 for Power Cleans, 175 for Snatch, and get a consecutive run of double-unders without cursing up a storm like Karina.

What is your favorite movement?

The Carlton (That’s for Spencer!) Seriously though, I am a serious fan of the Snatch. I hate not being good at something.

What is your least favorite movement?

Double-unders. And that’s all I got to say about that…

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

“Try not. Do or Do Not. There is no Try.” -Yoda

(Words to live by) The Seven P’s: Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Don’t give up. Change takes time.   Soreness will happen; embrace it. That is your body telling you that what you are doing is working. The CrossFit community is the most supportive community out there. Speaking from personal experience; CrossFit has been life changing. Whatever your personal goals are; you can achieve them here.

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

The people of Centerville CrossFit is what keeps me coming back. My friends that I have made, the coaching staff (which also falls into the first group). The support you get from others just drives you to do and be better

I am… Brittani Sarget

I like… laughing, a lot!

I dislike… The use of the “r” word or any word that is demeaning to a group of people.

I eat… mostly Paleo, I really try to adhere to the 80/20 rule most of the time and sometime I’m better at it than others and I really love ice cream 🙂

I will… always try to push myself outside of my comfort zone and encourage other to do the same.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, hobbies, occupation, etc…

I am a middle school multiple disabilities teacher. My students mean the world to me and I consider them my kids. I finished my master’s degree in April and currently I’m finishing my principal’s certification. Between that, CrossFit, and work, I don’t have much free time. With the little bit that I do have, I spend it with Billy, our families, and friends.

What brought you to Centerville CrossFit and CrossFit in general?

I started bootcamp in December 2011 after hearing about CrossFit from a friend in Columbus. I had lost some weight on my own and was looking for a way to “tone up” and bootcamp seemed less intimidating at the time. I literally used a 5 pound kettle bell when I started! I started doing CrossFit classes 6 months later and fell in love with it. In July, I signed up for the Tri-State Throwdown and decided to move to the advanced class and haven’t looked back!

What goals have you achieved? What are your new ones?

In January of this year, I set a goal to get my first pull-up and did that my March with just a little extra practice. All summer I tried to hit a 140 pound squat clean and did it in the Throwdown. I try to set mini goals all the time. My most recent was kipping handstand push-ups and I did 15 in September. Now I’m looking at strict handstand push-ups and ring dips. I always want to improve my form and technique and I know I have a long way to go, but I’ve also come so far. My long term goal is to do a competition Rx.

What is your favorite movement?

Power Cleans!

What is your least favorite movement?

Snatch, overhead squat, burpees and running!

What is your favorite quote or words to live by?

Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.  – Mary Kay Ash

Do you have any advice to new members or someone thinking about joining?

Just come! Don’t say you want to get in shape first, that will happen here. Don’t be discouraged! We all started somewhere. If you would have told me in Dec. 2011 that I would be where I am today, I would have literally laughed in your face.

What do you love about Centerville CrossFit?

The people! I have met some of my best friends here. I have a group of girlfriends that I know  would do anything for me and I would do anything for them. We range in age from 25-45, some are married and some aren’t, some have kids and some don’t. We come from all different walks of life but our common factor is Centerville CrossFit. Without CCF, I would have never met these amazing women, and for that I forever thankful! #sappy #blessed #hadtothrowinsomehashtages
