Eat Clean Challenge Winner #2-Bryan

Our second 50 day challenge winner was Bryan, who lost an incredible 23 mm, 6 in, and 17.8 pounds! After the challenge, he has reintroduced some of his former foods, and although he didn’t experience the stomach pains many do, he did see a reoccurrence of the back and joint pain that had been eliminated through his period of strict Paleo eating. He also notes that during the challenge he had more stable energy levels, so much so that he didn’t even consume caffeine after the first day!

To those setting out to make big changes in diet, Bryan warns that food cheats can become a slippery slope. In his experience (and many of us can relate), once you start cheating, the foods you were trying to avoid make themselves a regular part of your diet once again. He suggests setting a specific time (like Saturday night dinner) where you will eat whatever you want, and then adhere to your diet the remainder of the time. As a busy husband and father, he also recommends finding recipes that are easy to prepare and can be made/frozen ahead of time. At the end of a long day (and workout), it is difficult to find the motivation to prepare a complicated meal, making it more likely an unhealthy choice will become dinner.

The following article gives scientific feedback as to why Bryan likely noticed a reduction/reoccurrence of joint pain with the elimination/reintroduction of non-Paleo choices. Remember: your diet is affecting more than just your waistline. If you are having issues with sleep, pain, or anything else you can’t seem to find a solution for, examining your plate might be the logical first step.

Christmas Party

Mark your calendars! On Friday, December 16, we will be celebrating Christmas with our Centerville CrossFit family. The party will begin at 6:00 pm (please note: there will be no other workouts this day) with a workout (including a special CrossFit kids workout!), followed by a catered dinner and white elephant gift exchange. You won’t want to miss this event, and we encourage you to bring your family. An RSVP sheet will be posted in the gym; this will be important to ensure we have enough food for everyone!
