Maria Flaherty

In October 2009, I reached 198 pounds. I couldn't believe I was only 2# away from being 200. Everyone has a story about why they gain weight or just get out of shape, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is when you decide to change the way things are. It was that scale telling me how big I had become. At that point I knew something had to be done.

I started on the Paleo diet and by March 2010 I had lost 20#. At that point I started CrossFit and have since then lost another 21, making the grand total of 41#. Of course it's not really the weight that matters, it's how I look and feel and perform in life. I feel great, I can't believe how much my body has changed these past 10 months, and I can't believe how much stronger I am. Who knew I would deadlift nearly 200#, the weight I almost was?

Here it is, the beginning of Sept. and I want to continue getting rid of the fat, and I know I will. My metabolism is better than ever, I'm stronger than I've ever been, and I love doing the workouts…it's just plain fun. My future with crossfit is hopefully becoming svelt and most of all to compete. And I know it can be done.
